Making an Impact: Alumnus Landon Lujan Works to Protect Environment
Thorin Rosten, Environmental Management and Protection, ’22
Recent alumnus Landon Lujan (Environmental Earth and Soil Sciences, ’21) is now working with Rincon Consultants Inc., a California-based company that offers a range of services, including environmental sciences and land use planning, site assessment and remediation, sustainability and climate action, air quality compliance and adaptation and resilience, among others.
Lujan, who graduated with a minor in land rehabilitation and restoration ecology, was drawn to environmental science because he wanted to make a difference in how soil, water and other natural resources are managed and protected. As he was preparing for his last quarters at Cal Poly, he began to network with various alumni who provided him an opportunity to interview with, and ultimately receive a job offer from, Rincon Consultants, where he now plays a major role in managing and monitoring various environmental compliance programs for clients. Projects include development of stormwater pollution prevention plans and other programs that help clients maintain and improve air, water and soil quality.
As a Cal Poly student, Lujan enjoyed a range of opportunities in his lab and field courses that gave him the experience that helped him be prepared for the job day one. Lujan said that environmental consulting is a highly dynamic and exciting field in which he gets to make a positive impact every day.
