About Dr. Ashley Grupenhoff

Dr. Grupenhoff is a fire ecologist who completed her PhD in Ecology from UC Davis, with a focus on prescribed fire effectiveness across California’s dry conifer forests. Broadly, Ashley's research is aimed at understanding the impacts of fire on wildland ecosystems, as well as informing management strategies to mitigate wildfire effects. To do so, she combines field research with modeling techniques to better understand the consequences of altered fire regimes on species composition and ecosystem resilience in forest and shrubland systems. She developed a passion for prescribed and cultural fire use as a way to manage resources and restore ecosystem resilience. As such, she has dedicated herself to being a student of fire, continually working to support community-based burning. Dr. Grupenhoff encourages inquiries into undergraduate and graduate research projects related to fire management in California’s diverse ecosystems.
