The Cal Poly Soil Judging team participated in the Region 6 Collegiate Soil Judging Competition held at Woodlake, CA on March 4, 2017, where they took first place in group judging and first place overall. Awards were also given to the top six individuals at the competition, with four of our five team members placing in the top six. Adriana Delucchi took first place overall in the individual competition, with Riley Haas placing fourth, Taylor Cullum placing fifth, and Angus Chang taking sixth.

Region 6 covers California along with the states of Alaska, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and New Mexico. Participating at the Region Competition were 25 students from three universities.

Soil Judging is a national collegiate program in which students use professional standards established by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to describe, classify, and interpret soils in the field in a competitive setting.

The win allows the students to compete as one of 24 qualifying teams at the National Soil Judging Competition hosted at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL from April 23-29 of this year.
